Local and National media reports have recently high-lighted the degree to which many antenatal services offered by local GP's and Hospitals are under increasing pressure. High workloads, inadequate staffing levels and financial restrictions have resulted in over-burdened NHS antenatal services.

Private Obstetric Care

Mr Ali's aim is to provide you with a Consultant based service in comfortable and relaxed settings with an unhurried and open approach to managing all aspects your pregnancy. Private Obstetric Care provides you with the convenience of tailoring your antenatal assessments and scans to a time that is convenient to you. You will also be comfortable in the knowledge that you will have direct access to Mr Ali by phone throughout the pregnancy to discuss any acute concerns you may have.

Mr Ali will be taking on patients wishing to undertake antenatal care and delivery at The Portland Hospital from September 2008.

Antenatal consultations will typically last between 20-30minutes and will include:

- Blood pressure and Urine check

- Clinical assesment of the pregnancy

- A quick-look ultrasound scan to confirm the presentation of the baby (eg. Cephalic/Breech),Fetal heart beat, Placental site, Liquor volume assessment

- Opportunity to discuss any issues or concerns you have regarding your pregnancy

- Routine or additional blood tests can also be taken if required (you will be contacted with the results within 24-48 hours for most routine tests)

If problems are detected during your consultation these will be discussed fully with you and the options for further management will be jointly considered. On occasion this may require additional blood tests, scans or admission to Hospital.
