SPECIALIST TRAINING & AREAS OF INTEREST
Mr Ali became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in 1997. In 2003 after completing a specialist training rotation at King's College Hospital he was appointed to a Consultant post at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Greenwich before being head-hunted for his present post at The Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust.
Early on in his training he developed an interest in high risk Obstetrics, Recurrent miscarriages and early Pregnancy complications. The latter was sparked after working as a member of Professor Lesley Regan's team at St. Mary's Hospital. Subsequent research work at the Royal Free Hospital involved assessing the effect of Thrombophilic Disorders (excessive blood clotting tendencies) on recurrent miscarriages and poor pregnancy outcomes.
During his training years he spent 2 years as a Research Fellow on the Fetal Medicine Unit where that he developed skills in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound.
As a Consultant Obstetrician he has developed experience in managing low and high risk pregnancies. He has a particular interest in, and has given lectures on, Pre-eclampsia, Intra-Uterine Growth problems and Multiple pregnancies (approx. 250 multiple pregnancies have been cared for by Mr Ali since 2003).
"Gynaecological problems or those arising during pregnancy often cause considerable degrees of anxiety and stress for many women and their partners. Therefore in addition to good medical knowledge, experience and technique, especially in this field of medicine I believe good doctors are also distinguished by an ability to listen to and an ability to support their patients"
