Unfortunately miscarriages are very common worldwide. Consequently bleeding and or pain in early pregnancy naturally causes great concern and anxiety for expectant parents. This is even more so for parents unlucky enough to have suffered a pregnancy loss in the past. A simple scan can often provide great relief to parents in such circumstances. A healthy pregnancy can only be confirmed by visualising the fetal heartbeat which is usually visible by 7- 8 weeks on an abdominal scan and by 6wks (& occasionally 5+wks) on an internal(vaginal) scan). Such scans are unfortunately often not available within the NHS from the afternoon onwards and at weekends.
